Now, three years later, she is singing along.

Watching an actor act alongside his/herself while playing both sets of twins is always interesting, but just relying on actor duplication is not enough to carry a storyline.

Big Business (Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin each playing a set of twins) takes the twin premise to its comedic extreme where every gag is almost desperately reliant upon the twin concept.

Adaptation makes the fact that Charlie Kaufman’s fake brother is a twin a subtle (and almost unnecessary) plot element, but Nicolas Cage’s performance as the Kaufman twins is entirely engrossing.

Visual effects and camera angles play a huge part in trying to create a reasonable action movie in which one actor plays both twins. Both of these movies relied heavily on hairstyles to keep the audiences from getting confused and played up the wink-wink moments for the cameras. Jackie Chan and Jean Claude Van Damme deliver on the action but struggle a bit with the comedy.

Twins are not just comedic fodder but can also be quite creepy. Even if you have not seen The Shining pop culture demands that you are familiar with the scene in which Danny is riding his big wheel down the hall and comes face to face with the dead twin girls.

In Basket Case, Duane carries his horribly misshapen Siamese twin around in a basket (after it has been surgically removed), who then climbs out of the basket and kills people.  Belial is much too ridiculous to be scary, but Basket Case is a true cult classic.

Twins don’t always have to be identical, and in some cases the same-but-different element can actually be more interesting. The Stork twins (played by Bobcat Goldthwait and Tom Villard) bring much hilarity to the cult comedy One Crazy Summer.

Perhaps the most unforgettable twins performance comes from the movie simply named Twins starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Devito. The movie is funny and touching and definitely one of the top twin movies.

The latest twin movie to hit the big screen is Jack and Jill starring Adam Sandler.  I have not yet seen it but it adds a new twist to the comedic possibilities by having Sandler play both brother and sister in this set of twins. Hopefully the movie goes beyond the silliness of Sandler in drag and provides some classic Sandler laughs.

Of course Hawkeye is marginalized, which is disappointing but is probably setting the right expectation for what I should expect from the film.  Here is a great shot of him falling and shooting.

Sugar’s Copper Blue was such a perfect, noise-pop album that cemented Bob Mould as a genius.  When 1993′s Beaster EP came out I was hoping for more hooky sing-a-longs, but instead Sugar delivered a heavier, denser album.  I did not connect with it immediately, but experiencing it live helped me to appreciate the power of it.  The intensity of the songs were over-powering as I thrashed around in the pit.

I had no intention of crowd surfing, but a stranger next to me in the pit offered to put me up and he looked so hopeful that I couldn’t say no.  Three seconds later I was tumbling awkwardly on top of the crowd.  Of all the strange places to run into someone you know, I found myself beside my close friend who I had come to the concert with.  We cheered and high-fived each other, but then our combined weight became too much and the crowd parted.  I landed hard on my back and walked hunchedly and painfully for the next two weeks.  Beaster still sends nostalgic twitches to my lower back.
